I. NEW PERFORMANCES

Lost Paradise (The Philippines, Dec 2012 – Jan 2013) deals with the theme of the regression towards our animal condition, approached from a perspective close to pantheism and with a feeling of oneness with nature. The main idea of this project is “becoming buffalo”, intended as a journey, an expansion of Being through the dissolution of the self, an attempt of ontological transformation establishing a co-existence with the buffaloes by bathing daily with them in the water and remaining completely silent in a meditative state for the duration of one month. The whole process will be documented with video and this material will lead to a video-performance and to a film installation.

Regression (IMA Hainburg, 2012) is inspired by the Diogenes syndrome, a disorder characterized by extreme selfneglect, domestic squalor, social withdrawal, apathy, compulsive hoarding of rubbish, and lack of shame. This piece attempts to be an archeological revision of Marta Moreno Muñoz’s personal life and past work and the intra-history of the space where the performance will take place. During the process the performance process the artist returns to a certain state of ‘psychic paleolithism’, a more intuitive performative practice driven by archaic impulses, departing from symbolic thinking and disrupting the ‘“law of the father“.

Guggenheim. This video-performance, first in the series Destroying 2000 Years of Culture, was created for an alternative art festival at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao but was unfortunately censored by the direction of the museum a day before the scheduled screening on the 12th of May 2011. In this video, the performer destroys a wardrobe full of VHS tapes labeled ‘Guggenheim’, first with an axe, followed by a ritualistic burning of the wardrobe and tapes. This work deals with the idea of the artist’s dissolution of her own narcissism, her conflicting sentiments towards her own practice and its relation to the ‘art institutions’.

Beirut, Hal Zarafat?/ Between you and hatred is a river of love from which we all drink: performance produced in Beirut in June 2011 with the help of Acousmatik System and STEP BEYOND mobility fund.

Prostrations series (work in progress started in Nepal, 2011).

Bulimia and Transference: a reverse osmosis performance depicting Singapore through its symptoms. (Singapore, 2013).

The Unified Field: a live sound and video performance never realized project in collaboration with Marc Chia, aka One Man Nation.

II. SELECTED EARLY PERFORMANCES (1996-2002).

In my former performances under the alias Residua (n.pl) the central idea was one of art as experience rather than as representation. Since then, my work has focused predominantly on subjects such as “feminine” subjectivity, dissolution of the ego and the notion of pre-oedipal nostalgia. These early performances were an expression to exorcise personal demons within, responding to a patriarchal and undesirable reality, experiencing the dissolution of the self via various processes in an attempt to expand self-consciousness by overcoming physical and emotional pain. However, in recent years there has been an inflection point and I have incorporated into my projects different strategies, sometimes more reflective, abandoning that masochistic attitude.
